Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences

The Pathology Department of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences was founded in 1959, simultaneously with the establishment of the former National University, under the leadership of Dr. Reza Soltani Nasab  , who had a specialized board in clinical and anatomical pathology from the United States. Thanks to his efforts, this field became a combination of anatomical and clinical pathology, and pathology assistants studied and specialized in both fields. He often taught pathology, histology, and embryology courses himself. Gradually, the histology and embryology groups were separated from pathology and joined anatomy.

During this period, Dr. Mohammad Rakhshan also became a member of the faculty of Shahid Beheshti University (formerly National University). He had  completed a specialization in clinical and anatomical pathology and a course in hematopathology at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States and a course in immunopathology at Harvard University, and had also been working as a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh for a while. In July 1976, he returned to his homeland and began working full-time at Shahid Beheshti University. He taught students of various basic medical sciences, medical students, and pathology residents of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, and for many years taught students of Qazvin University, which was under the auspices of Shahid Beheshti University, with great enthusiasm . At the beginning of Taleghani Hospital, he set up its Clinical Pathology Department and went to Loghman Hakim Hospital to continue his service (the reason for choosing Loghman Hospital was its location in  the south of Tehran and the large number of patients). He remained there until his last day of service, and even  continued to serve there for free for six months after his retirement in 2010, and he sincerely and unstintingly cooperated  with colleagues from all over the country in the field of diagnostics. He was also the director of the pathology department and a member of the board of examiners of the pathology board for many years. His tireless holding of weekly slide seminars for pathology residents during these years, writing in the field of hematology, and free supervision of the translation of reference books for students,

including pathology, histology, embryology, etc., are among his achievements.
